Santorini

On July 29th we caught a 4:10 AM flight out to the Greek Island of Santorini. As we arrived the sun was rising which made for a perfect start to our trip!

Once we finally got to our accommodation we realized we were staying in traditional caves. The caves were built into the hill side and had the beautiful white walls and royal blue roofs and doors. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay! Our host (Nikos) was such a great help and told us all about the island.

On our first day we went to Kamari Beach, which is a black sand beach. I loved this kind of beach because it was a little more course than typical beaches so the sand didn’t get everywhere. You could easily wipe it off. The beach also had a cliff that you could climb up and jump off. Us girls decided to stay back and just watch while the boys free fell off a cliff!

The next day we went out and rented ATV’s to get around the island.

Once we had those we were off exploring! We went to the Red Beach which was quite a hike to get to but well worth it. The beach was filled with small red stones and the water was crystal clear.

Then we went to Perissa, which is another black sand beach but once you got into the water the ground was not sandy anymore. Instead it was just one extremely large flat rock that you could stand on and stretch all along the beach.

The last stop was to the other side of the island to Monolithos beach. This beach had extremely big waves and very fine black sand. The boys decided to become one with the ocean and skinny dip in the massive waves. For Chels and I we got a really good laugh because every time a huge wave would come they would get thrown around and we could see their little white butts pop out of the water! At this beach they did a lot of water sports and kite surfing because the waves were so big!

The next day we continued out beach hunt and found three more beaches. But the last topped them all! Amoudi Bay was amazing. To get there you had to walk through the fish taverns and climb over big rocks and walk across this skinny plank to get to the rock beach. Finally we saw what it was all about! The water was so clear blue and off in the distance stood this island that you could swim to and explore. The island had another cliff jumping spot. After being talked into is and peer pressured. We all did the jump. Although it was extremely thrilling and I am happy I did it. I cant say I would do it again! Once was enough.

Later that evening we went back to Oia and the fish taverns and had dinner while watching the sunset.
